“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”
Upper Mustang Trek sets the adventure in search of exploring unique culture, tradition and local living around Mustang region of Nepal. Either it is rural life style and rituals like Polyandry of Mustangi people, trekking around deserted lands or Trans Himalayan landscapes; every aspect of this adventure amazes you from all around. You would resemble the cultures similar to Tibetans, it is oblivious as the topography of Mustang is just next to Tibet. Therefore, trekking in Upper Mustang region of Nepal is quite similar to trekking around Tibetan Lands across the border. Panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other neighboring peaks are added attraction of this trip. The traditional yet architectural palace of Lo-Manthang has been the major attraction in this trekking.
Our Upper Mustang walking adventure begins as we take a scenic drive towards scenic lake city of Pokhara followed by short fly to Jomsom airstrip. Walking activity begins on day four of trekking as we trek towards Kagbeni, gateway to Upper Mustang region. A deserted land, small huts, cottages, deserted landscapes of Kagbeni attracts visitors and while taking the sip of local apple brandy, they would definitely feel relaxed and re-energized. As we trek further along the banks of mighty Kali Gandaki River we arrive at Lo-Manthang which is also known as capital of Upper Mustang. We will be surrounded by ancient Tibetan monasteries namely Logwyker Gumba, Samya Gumba and others which offers an insight to the religious views, and culture of local inhabitants. The houses constructed from stones slaps and mud bricks are what the locals live in. The major festival celebrated at Upper Mustang region is Tiji around late spring. Crossing small and large settlements across Ghiling and Chele we arrive at Jomsom. During the final days of trekking, we take a short fight to Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu.
Being one of the most popular off the beaten path trekking in Nepal, this trek can be joined any time of the year as the Upper Mustang region lies inside the rain shadow of Mt. Annapurna. It gives you unique taste of trekking in Nepal which is completely different from other popular treks like Everest Base Camp Trek or Annapurna Base Camp Trek. If you are in good shape with moderate fitness level then you would make the most of Upper Mustang Trek.
