Around Manaslu Circuit trek is a demanding, unspoiled trek around remote areas of northwestern Nepal. Since 1992, Around Manaslu trekking has been attracting adventure lovers having interest in exploring foothills of grand Himalayas. Very different from Annapurna circuit trek or Everest base camp trek, this Manaslu circuit trek offers the variation in topography from lowlands at an altitude of 640m to high passes at an altitude of 5215m. This topographical variation and cultural exploration along close views of snow capped mountains, rivers; glaciers are specialty of this special Around Manaslu trekking which is now regarded as popular trekking in Nepal destination.


Manaslu Circuit Trek starts as you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport followed by a day sightseeing around UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley. Initially we drive towards Arughat which is the starting point of our Around Manaslu Trekking. We will be involving in trekking activity for an average of 6 hours a day during Around Manaslu Trekking. For next week, we will be trekking through various colorful sites like Soti Khola, Machha Khola, Jagat, Ngyak, Ghap, Lho and Samagompa before we set for acclimatization to head towards Samdo. The magnificent view of Manaslu and other neighboring peaks are seen from Lho, Samagompa and Samdo. As we arrive at Dharmasala or Larke Phedi, we will be witnessing the Larkya glacier. The big day of this adventure is coming up as we face challenging walk to Larkya la pass at an altitude of 5160m. From the pass spectacular views of Larkya Peak, Himal chuli, Himlung HImal, grand Annapurna II and other surrounding peaks can be viewed. Further, trails of Manaslu Trek follows the descending pattern as we trek to Bhimthang, Tilije, Tal, Chamje nad long drive back to Kathmandu announcing conclusion of our adventurous journey.

  • Day 01- Arrival in Kathmandu

    Initially our office representative will meet you at Kathmandu Airport (Tribhuvan International Airport). Finish your custom formalities (visa, etc.) and get to the airport waiting terminal, you will find our representative waiting to greet you. He/she will be holding Icicles Adventure Treks and Tour signboard. You will be then transferred to your respective hotel in our private vehicle. You can either rest in your hotel or shop around Thamel for any gears for your trek. Accommodation: City Hotel.

  • Day 02: Kathmandu (1,338 m/4,390 ft): Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

    We start a guided tour to several medieval and spiritual sites in Kathmandu which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kathmandu valley is a synthesis of Hindu and Buddhist temples, stupas and statues, and is often the site of festivals and other ceremonies. We visit Pashupatinath, a very sacred temple complex for Hindus all over the world on the banks of the holy Bagmati river. Here, monkeys run up and down the steps of the burning ghats, and saddhus draped orange and saffron sit serenely meditating. We visit historic Durbar Square, a compound of temples, ancient palaces and architecture. Next we walk the stone steps up to a hilltop where the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) with its whitewashed stupas and its unique fusion of Buddhism and Hinduism exist from centuries. Next we visit Buddhists shrine (BouddhaNath) which is one of the large Stupas in the world. The prominent Buddha eyes of Boudhanath Stupa attract Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world. Later after sightseeing program, we will introduce you with your trekking guide and have a small pre-trip meeting. You can also take an opportunity to hire/buy any last minute trekking equipment or bargain for your souvenirs at the many stores. You are advised to pack your things and be set up for your Manaslu Circuit Trekking adventure that will begin tomorrow. Accommodation: City Hotel. Included Meal: B

  • Day 03: Drive to Arughat – 6 hrs drive

    With all the excitement in our heart, early in the morning we take a drive towards Arughat. It will be a pleasant 6 hours drive on private or public vehicle with awesome views of terraced mountain fields. Along the way, we follow the Trishuli river towards Dhading district. Further driving through off road takes us towards Arughat which is the small village on a bank of Budhigandaki river. . Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 04: Arughat to Soti Khola (700m/2296 ft) 6-7 hrs

    In the following few days it will be mostly a hot day in afternoon where we make our way through lush green forests hiking up to villages across Budhi Gandaki Valley. Bramin, Chetri, Gurung, Magar ,we see ethnic diversity here. The road is off road towards Soti Khola, so we prefer to walk over drive. Crossing similar culturally rich villages, we ascend to Kurepani, cross a suspension bridge and finally arrive at Soti khola(river). Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 05: Trek to Machha Khola (870 m/2854 ft) 5-6 hrs

    Further we continue our Manaslu Ciccuit trekking journey passing through lower altitude middle hills and temperature slightly rises up while we reach at Armala. Then we pass through the forest trail to arrive at Lapubesi, a local Gurung settlement. On trekking route, we enjoy great sceneries of waterfalls, Machha khola hamlet with spectacular views of Ganesh himal and other neighboring snow capped Himalayan peaks.   • Day 06: Machha Khola to Jagat (1340m/4395 ft) 6 -7 hrs

    Further we make our way through Machha khola which literally means Fish River named as there we can find quite a number of fishes on river. Today we ascend towards Khorlabesi that follows with about an hour walking along the river. We climb the stone steps, hotsprings, tobacco and buckwheat fields and reach at Tatopani. We won’t miss an opportunity to take a soak in water coming out from stone spouts. Again, climbing through waterfalls and recently built suspension bridge above Budhi Gandaki river. Finally, we arrive at Dobhan and Budhi Gandaki descends to a steep cataracts. We walk through local faunas like sheeps and goats and eventually arrive at small village of Jagat.   • Day 07: Jagat to Deng (1860 m/ 6100 ft) 6- 7hrs

    It will be quite a challenging long day today. First, our trekking permits get checked at Jagat and climb long stone steps to river through terraced farmlands towards Salleri that boasts excellent views of Sringi Himal. Continuing our exciting fun filled journey, we get an opportunity to spot dramatic gorges, waterfalls, and even white face langur monkey hanging on trees. After two hours passing Philim we reach the bridge made up of metal at Budhi Gandaki from right of which leads to Tsum valley. After another 45 minutes of relatively easy climbing we leave the narrow gorge, cross the Dyang Khola on a suspension bridge, and climb briefly to the hamlet of Deng. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 08: Deng to Numrung (2630m/ 8626 ft) 6- 7hrs

    With constant ascends and descends towards for next couple of hours, we arrive at Rana. In this way continuing our walk towards Bhim phedi, we enjoy Kutang Himal and start to see exciting Mani stones. Crossing the local villages via Serang khola, we climb towards budi gandaki river and finally arrive at Ghap. Upon reaching Ghap, we see egg-shells strung above the local ‘tea-house’ doors in Ghap prevent the evil spirits from entering the house. The trekking is pleasantly cool now, as we start to gain height and enter the alpine forest of dense, cool forest of fir, rhododendron, bamboo and oaks, giving occasional glimpses of snowy mountains. We realize the valley is now becoming steeper with ravines and water cascades. We cross the river few times on suspension bridges and begin a long climb on steep stone staircases up to the Namrung village. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 09: Namrung to Lho (3180 m/10430 ft) 5- 6 hrs

    Crossing the Namrung valley, the trail opens out to extensive barley fields and pastures. Trekking through Banjam we arrive at Lihi. Just above this village we get a first sight of majestic Manaslu. One more small descent out of Sho, past a fly-blown teahouse and a small stream, and we start to climb up to Lho and in about three hours we reach Lho, a large sprawling village adorned with a lot of prayer flags with a lovely little monastery and numerous chortens, and stupa.   • Day 10: Lho to Sama Gaun (3520m/11545 ft) 5- 6 hrs

    Initially we get up early in the morning to view exciting Manaslu. We cross local barley fields, mani wall and chortens to get at place to see panoramic views of Mt. Manaslu and neighboring peaks. We will cross the river flowing from Pungen glacier and climb towards the ridge. We get an opportunity to see excellent views of Manaslu and other neighboring Himalayan peaks near the monastery. Then after we descend from the main route until we arrive at Sama Gaon and visit spectacular Sama monastery. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 11: Rest and acclimatization day at Sama Gauon

    We leave behind the Sama Gaun and after around half n hour, we come across small bridge from where  we hike through gate of grazing wall and head west towards Manaslu Base Camp and Birendra Lake passing through woods, dirt trail, passing along the rhododendron treks and lakes with amazing Manaslu glacier. We go for a walk across cave at 4000 meters before calling it and heading towards the small river stream.

    Making our way through the Himalayan birch, we walk up to Samdo passing by the left side of long Mani walks at Kyonggma Kharka and in a little while pass through entrance of Chorten of Samdo. We will then descend back towards Budhi Gandaki river passing through a small bridge that leads us to Samdo. The local inhabitants of Samdo region are from the Tibetan origin whi were ceded by the land by king of Jumla 500 years ago. We take a short time to walk around the village to witness the Tibetan lifestyle, herding their yaks, sheep, goats and training their horses. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 12: Trek to Samdo (3875m/12710 ft) 5- 6 hrs

    After half an hour walk towards Sama Gaon, we will cross the small bridge and trek through the gate of grazing wall and push ourselves forward west towards Manaslu base camp along Birendra Lake and grassy lateral moraine. Further we hike through off road trails, forests, juniper and rhododendron forests and the lake below opens up . In this way we get closer and nearer to Manaslu glacier. Further we pass through the left of Mani walls at yak pasture land that takes us to entrance of Chorten at Samdo. In this way, we descend towards Budhi Gandaki River and cross a small bridge that leads to a short climb to Samdo. The villagers of Samdo come across the border at local village that shows the excerpts of Tibetan lifestyle, Yaks, sheep and goats.  Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 13: Trek to Dharamsala High Camp (Larkya Phedi) (4480 m/14694 ft) 3- 4 hrs

    It is also a short day today as we leave behind Samdo today following ancient trading Tibetan route while crossing a small bridge and climb towards western direction of route above the Larkya Bazar. The market is one popular site, a seasonal tented camp, where various local items and from across the border are being traded.  In this way, finally we arrive at Dharmasala from the high camp for the Larkya la pass. Slowly we start to feel the impact of altitude sickness and low temperature as we gain elevation. We also can get an opportunity to spot a blue sheep somewhere near grazing. If you have interest, we shall also go to ridges of valley enjoying a bird watching, blue ships and other floras and faunas. Excellent views of Naike peak and other surrounding Himalayas is seen along the route. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 14: Cross Larkya La (5160m/16924 ft) to Bimthang (3590m/11775 ft) 7- 8hrs

    Today we get ready very early in the morning as it will be comparatively challenging day passing through Larkya la pass. After taking a short climb to right side of lateral moraine, we will make our way through bottom of this valley. With chances of spotting blue sheep, pika, marmot, Tibetan snow cock and even snow leaopard’s paw prints; soon we arrive at the valley on northern side of Larkya glacier. The landscape views of Cho dada, Ganesh Himal to east and then at Larkya Peak to the west. We will then continue our walk towards snowy glacier moraine with plenty of snow markers and in about two hours, we finally arrive at small hut. Further walking for nearly two hours will take us to small ridges passing through  a frozen lakes, snowy paths and gradual ascent which becomes more steeper at the final sections of the high altitude pass. The views from the top are very special and astounding in nature. From the east, the direction we just hiked up, we’ll look down on Samdo Peak and the peaks bordering Tibet, and Larkye Peak to the southeast. To the west towards the Annapurna region rise Kangaru (ridge only), Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal and a bit further down the pass the views open up to include Gyagi Kung and Annapurna II. We continue to traverse downhill with another steep section ahead, soon reaching a flatter valley full of primulas and azalea bushes. We still have a good 2-3 hours to reach Bimthang. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 15: Bimthang to Tilje (1965m/6445 ft) 5- 6 hrs

    Today after having our early meal, we leave behind Bhimtang and head towards Tilije. Intially, we climb the ridge over the moraine and in no time, cross a small river stream via wooden bridge. We take  an ascend making our way through rhododendron, juniper and other trees. The back side of Manaslu opens up impressively in front of us. We will then follow the rivers originating from glaciers and finally cross a Steel Bailey’s bridge to arrive at Karche. Further passing through quite a few small yet naturally and culturally affluent villages, we reach Tiije. We can see the mixed ethnic communities of Managis, Gurungs and Chettris with their cultural fusion. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 16: Tilje to Tal (1700m/5576 ft) 6- 7 hrs

    During the final few days of our Manaslu Circuit trek, we walk across the Dudh khola passing through bamboo forests to local village of Dharapani. We get an impressive influence of Tibetan culture and lifestyle while visiting the nearby monasteries on classic Annapurna route. Heading south via main Annapurna Circuit trail, we soon arrive at a long suspension bridge from which we cross the Marsyangdi river to arrive at a village called Karte. Continuing our journey, passing many lodges at Khorte, we enjoy crossing the Marsyandi river once again. Finally we drop to the river level and arrive at the beautiful Taal. Taal literally means lake, and now after the lake is no more, the village sits on top in level with river. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 17: Tal to Besishahar(760m).6- 7 hrs

    We make our way following the Manaslu circuit route via left side of the river. We have a quick climb up the elevation and later we descend steep on a stone steps passing small teahouses at Sattale. We lose quite an altitude today while descending the trail passing through dense green forests, crossing small swinging bridges. Trekking in this way, we finally arrive at Chame. Chame is traditionally beautiful village with great insights into local teahouses, horse riding has been the passion for the locals here. There has been road construction being carried on from here, and we take a drive on jeep  to arrive at Besisahar via Jagat and Syange. Accommodation: Local lodge. Included Meal: B, L, D

  • Day 18: Drive Besishahar to Kathmandu 7- 8 hrs

    Our Manaslu Circuit Trek finally concludes today as we will be trekking back towards Kathmandu today. We enjoy the surroundings, passing trees, rivers, landscapes and mountains on drive. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, we have our farewell dinner at traditional and cultural restaurant with Icicles team. Driving Time: 6 hrs. Accommodation: City Hotel. Included Meal: B

  • Day 19: Transfer to Kathmandu international airport for final departure

    With the mind and heart full of beautiful memories, its time to return to your home country today. Our office representative will transfer you to the Tribhuwan International Airport so that you can catch your scheduled flight.

    Nepal Trip extension is also there as a option. You can either spend extra day at Pokhara, visit Chitwan for Jungle Safari, explore the three main cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan.
