Walking along the river banks, Dudh Koshi valley, following the popular route to Everest Base Camp, we arrive at our acclimatizing point, beautiful Sherpa village of Namche Bazar. Further we ascend our footsteps towards Gokyo valley via Dole and Machhermo. As we enter magical Gokyo valley, we will approach Ngozumba Glacier and excellent view of snowcapped peaks starts to appear. The turquoise glacial Gokyo Lakes, Himalayas and whole indulging atmosphere makes us feel like we are in the whole different world. After witnessing 360 panoramic views of Himalayan ranges from summit of Gokyo Ri, we will be crossing Cho La Pass that takes us to Everest Base Camp in next few days. Stepping at base camp of world’s highest mountain is huge accomplishment in itself. Finally, we hike up to Kalapatthar for close eye-catching views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Lhotse and other neighboring peaks followed by descend to Pheriche. Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu (1,338 m/4,390 ft)
Welcome to beautiful city of Kathmandu. Upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, meet our office representative at airport arrivals. He will meet and greet you and transfer to your pre booked hotel. After checking in, you can either relax or stroll around the streets of culturally affluent capital city. Don’t miss the Thakali thali and a plate of momo along with Tibetan beer. Meet our trekking guide at later afternoon who will give briefing on your Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo ri trek ensuring every trekking gears and equipments are packed and locked. Later over night stay at hotel in Kathmandu. Meals included: Breakfast
Day 02: Fly to Lukla (2,800 m/9,184 ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,652 m/8,700 ft) 3-4 hrs treks
We have our breakfast early at hotel in Kathmandu and get ready to board a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airstrip that takes us to heart of Everest region. This popular Tenjing Hillary airport is named after the legendary mountaineers Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenjing Norgay Sherpa. After landing at Lukla, we meet our porter team and will carry your baggage loads. In this way we start our trekking activity walking along the river banks of Dudhkoshi river. After couple of hours of walk we reach at Phakding where we will stay overnight at local teahouse. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 03: Phakding to Namche Bazar (3,440 m/11,283 ft) 5-6 hrs trek
If the weather is clear we get an exclusive opportunity to see the first glimpse of Everest along with excellent view of Thamserku mountain. We make our way through the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at small village of Monjo and further cross the river on popular Hillary suspension bridge. In the mid afternoon, we take a quick rest at chautara and continue hiking until we reach our tea house at Namche Bazar. We stay overnight at tea house. Meals included: Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner
Day 04: Acclimatization Day in Namche bazaar – Hike to Everest View Hotel. 3-4 hrs
Today will be our acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar where we will spend another one night to get familiar with mountain surroundings. Proper acclimatization is important to avoid altitude sickness and complete the trek successfully. Therefore, we go for short exciting day hike to Khumjung or Everest view hotel that offers magnificent views of Everest Himalayan range. At Khumjung, visit to local Tenjing Hillary School, Khunde hospital, monasteries, enjoy the pastries at local bakery or simply make your day an active one. We stay overnight at same tea house today. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 05: Trek to Dole (4,200 m/ 13,780 ft) 5-6 hrs
We start our day after having our early meal. We head towards north east of the major EBC trail. Walk though beautiful dense forests, that blooms during the spring, enjoying the natural views with rivers, forests and landscapes. Witness the grazing Yaks at Yak grazing area or locally known as kharka and continue our journey to Gokyo ri via Gele that finally leads us towards Dole. Our day involves around 5 hours of walk today. We stay overnight at local teahouse. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 06: Trek to Machhermo (4,470 m/ 14,663 ft) 4-5 hrs
With plenty of uphill and downhill walks, it will be more of ascends today. The trail passes through Lambarma along with Luja hamlet. We climb the steep trails, and arrive at flat kharka. In this way, we make our way through the side of valley at a place called Machhermo. It is also believed that in 1974, Yeti killed Yaks and local woman. Get to know more of stories, news like this enjoying the beautiful views of Everest Himalayas today. We stay overnight at local guest house in Machhermo. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 07: Machhermo to Gokyo (4800 m/15,744 ft) 4-5 hrs
Continuing our Gokyo trail, we take a break for taking awesome pictures of Cholatse at Panga. Walking on the slippery rocky trails reminds us that we are approaching Ngozumpa glacier. After couple of ascends and descends, enjoying the beautiful views of snowcapped Himalayan range, we pass through the glacier and head through first lake of Gokyo. Further infront of us, heavenly Gokyo second and third lake awaits us. We take a short lunch break and explore the third lake of Gokyo today. It will be nearly 5 to six hours of trekking today. We stay overnight at local teahouse with B,L,D included.
Day 08: Gokyo Valley: Acclimatization Day –4th and 5th Gokyo Lakes Hike. 6-7 hrs
Proper acclimatization is the key to make any trip a success. Therefore today is our acclimatization day at Gokyo valley. It will an opportunity for us to explore this beautiful place visiting the magical turquoise fourth and fifth lakes. There is the place called Scoundrel’s viewpoint where we will give a visit and enjoy panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse and even Everest along with other neighboring peaks along with Ngozumpa glacier. If we have time and as per the situation, upon your request we can even go to the sixth lake where we can see grand Himalayan peaks in a touching distance. Total waking time today will be between 6 to seven hours. We stay overnight at mountain lodge that includes B,L,D
Day 09: Hike Gokyo Ri (5357 m/17,570 ft) and trek to Thagnak (4750 m/15,580 ft) 5-6 hrs
We make our way to top of Gokyo ri today quite early in the morning. It will be strenuous yet enjoyable walk for couple of hours depending on how fit you are. It is not marathon, so basically you can walk on your own pace. The most important thing is that you should enjoy the overall experience. Upon reaching the top of Gokyo ri, excellent views of Makalu, Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Tawache and other numerous grand Himalayas are seen.
There are plenty of other snow capped peaks yet to get its name that surrounds us while we can see the largest Ngozumpa glacier making its route along the valley. Spectacular Gokyo Lake simply adds like cherry on piece of vanilla cake. Further we return towards beautiful village of Gokyo and head north east towards Thagnak. The trails are slippery here, so we try to make our every step very carefully enjoying great views of grand Cho Oyu and Cholatse. It will be around five to six hours of walk today. We stay at local guest house with B,L,D included.
Day 10: Thagnak to Cho La Pass (5420 m/17,780 ft) to Dzongla (4830 m /15939 ft) 6-7 hrs
Today is the important day for all of us as we will be cross the iconic Cho la pass through a slippery trail. We start our day early to enjoy beautiful sunrise at Himalayas. Trekking through steep trails through the glaciers, rocky boulders with beautiful flattering prayer flags and astounding views of Everest region Himalayas. We make our way carefully through the ice crevasses and finally arrive at Dzongla to stay overnight in the middle of Himalayas. Sometimes on winter season, crampons are recommended to cross the cho la pass. So, it is very important to visit with professional trekking guide. Solo trekkers have lost here. Please do as recommended by our experienced trekking leader and company. It will be around challenging 6 to 7 hours of walking today. Later we stay overnight at local guest house in Dzongla with B,L,D included.
Day 11: Dzongla to Lobuche (5170 m/16,961ft) 3-4 hrs
Today after having our early meal at local teahouse, we start our day heading through the edge of Awee Peak that lies above Cho la and cho la glacier that lies between the two Himalayan peaks Cholatse and Tawoche. We will further make ascend that gives a clear view of Nuptse peak. In this way, we continue towards Lobuche. It will be a short three to four hours of walking day today. We stay overnight at local guesthouse in Lobuche with B,L, D included.
Day 12: Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5364 m/17,594 ft) and back to Gorakshep (5,140 m/16860 ft) 6-7 hrs
One of the challenging yet significant day of our trek as we will be stepping at base of highest mountain on the earth today. We have heavy breakfast, get ready and walk through the moraine stretching from Khumbu glacier. We cross the glacier carefully and after few downhill walk, we arrive at Gorakshep. This is where we unpack our loads at teahouse. We have our lunch over there and further push ourselves towards Everest base camp which is 3 km away or nearly 45 minutes of walk. From the EBC, we won’t have the best view of Everest, but we can enjoy the views, surroundings, icefall and overall Himalayan atmosphere. If you are here during climbing spring season, you also get the chance to meet mountaineers and climbers waiting to take on Everest summit. Later we return to Gorakshep and stay overnight in a local teahouse that we had been in early afternoon. Meals includes B,L,D
Day 13: Gorekshep to Kalapatthar (5545m/18188ft) & trek to Pheriche (4210m/13809ft) 6-7 hrs
We will start our day very early today before sunrise as we will be heading towards Kalapathher to enjoy excellent views of Everest and other Himalayan peaks. At 5550m above sea level, Kalapathher is a black rocky structure or small hill. As the sun rises, we can see literally the magic happening infront of our eyes as the white Himalayas slowly turns into golden color. It is really an accomplishment to be at top of Kalapathher. Plenty of pictures will be taken and we try to make the best of every moment. Namely from the left – Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse, Everest , Nuptse, Amadablam, Taoche, Cholatse, Lobuche and Changi is seen. Thenafter with soaking up these beautiful sceneries, we return to Gorakshep for breakfast and descend towards Pheriche. It will be long walk of nearly eight to nine hours today. We stay overnight at local teahouse with B,L,D included.
Day 14: Pheriche to Namche Bazzar via Pangboche and Tengboche (3,440 m/11,283 ft) 5-6 hrs trek
We will start missing everything from beautiful views to adventurous experiences as we head from Pheriche to Namche Bazar today. As most of the trail will be descending, we gradually trek downhill watching our shaky legs and enjoy the same route down from the different perspective. First we cross the beautiful Panboche village followed by culturally rich Tengboche too. We visit the ancient monastery over there. We keep turning back, click lots of pictures and finally arrive at Namche Bazar for overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 15: Namche Bazaar – Lukla (2,800 m/9,184 ft) 6-7 hrs
Today is the final trekking day of our Gokyo Lakes and everest base camp trek. Walking down steeply through the trails, crossing the suspension bridges, forest walks, waterfalls, birds chirping and plenty of cultural insights, from flattering prayer flags to spinning prayer wheels, from stone carved rocks to chortens and monasteries, we reach at Lukla after walking nearly 6 to 8 hours with couple of breaks in between. We stay overnight at local guest house in Lukla. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner
Day 16: Fly Lukla to Kathmandu
After getting ready, having our breakfast and with last glimpse of Everest region, saying bye to local Sherpas, we fly back to Kathmandu via Lukla airport. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, free activities until end of the day. Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu. Included meal: Breakfast
Day 17: Contingency Day
This particular day is a leisure day if everything goes according to plan. And very important contingency day if your domestic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu gets delayed or cancelled. Weather changes very fast at the Himalayas and there are frequent rescheduling of flight at the Himalayas. So, we highly recommend you to plan at least one extra day in your itinerary. Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu. Included meal: Breakfast
Day 18: Final Departure
Your Gokyo Lakes and Everest base camp trek concludes today. After all packing and international flight preparation is done, our office representative will transfer you to Tribhuwan International Airport. Get in your flight in time and farewell friend.
